I heard that when someone is talking to me to look at them in the eye; the eyes tell the truth not the mouth...is this true?What does ';look people in the eye'; mean?

Whether or not someone looks you in the eye doesn't always mean if they're telling the truth or not.





Some people are shy.





Some people are from other countries where it is considered rude to directly look in someone's eyes when you talk to them.





But sometimes, if they are telling a lie, a person will feel ashamed and they won't look directly at you. This is easy to spot if you know them and they usually look at you when they talk.





When in doubt, be careful. Listen to your good sense. If you feel uncomfortable and feel uncertain whether someone is telling the truth protect yourself.
When you are truly interested in what someone is saying, you will find yourself looking them directly in the eye as they talk.





As to lying... it has nothing to do with how much they look you in the eye. When someone is lying they will generally look you in the eye less than they do when they normally talk to you, but then again other people will not break eye contact with you when they lie.





I am pretty shy and sometimes I find myself not looking people in the eye when they talk, but if I make a point of looking in their eyes I end up staring blankly and not really listening to what they are saying. Instead I just make sure to continually catch their gaze as they talk, even if i don't keep it, so they do know I am listening. It's a semi-happy medium.
looking at someone in the eyes shows a mutual respect-not that you like them, but that they're worth the effort of looking at them.


and es, if someone is concealing the truth, their eyes sometimes give it away.
